Fundación Valenciaport experiences 19% growth in its innovation area

  • These data have been presented today by the general director of the Fundación Valenciaport, Antonio Torregrosa, during the ordinary meeting of the board of trustees of the entity
  • During the meeting, the management report and the annual accounts for the financial year 2024 were approved and the members of the Board of Trustees were informed of the activities implemented since the beginning of 2025
  • Torregrosa stressed that the Fundación Valenciaport currently has 46 innovation projects underway

Valencia, 18th June 2025. – The Board of Trustees of the Fundación Valenciaport today held its ordinary meeting for the first half of the year, at which the management report and annual accounts of the Foundation for the 2024 financial year were approved.

During the meeting, the general director of the entity, Antonio Torregrosa, presented in detail to the members of the Board of Trustees the activity developed by the entity during the first half of 2025, highlighting especially the promotion of innovation in the logistics-port sector.

Innovation projects

Torregrosa highlighted the 4 new innovation projects approved since the start of 2025. These are ENDFOULING (IVACE+i), which will study the design of a bio-based antifouling or antifouling additive to slow down the growth of marine organisms on the hull of ships; PORTCREW (Interreg Euro-MED), which aims to promote smart and sustainable ecotourism in Mediterranean cruise ports; BREEZE (Interreg Europe), focused on accelerating the implementation of OPS (Onshore Power Supply) systems in ports, a measure that will be mandatory throughout Europe by 2030; and LIFE PMFree-Ports (Life), which will develop a tool to predict, control and minimise particulate emissions from the handling of bulk solids.

These new initiatives bring the total number of innovation projects currently underway in the organisation to 46, 96% of which are co-financed by European programmes. Torregrosa said he was very satisfied with the sustained growth of the Fundación Valenciaport in recent years ‘we have grown both in the number of projects and in staff and especially in turnover’, having increased the budget of the Fundación Valenciaport in innovation projects by 19% over the previous year.

On the other hand, the director reported on the recent completion of three other projects: SEANERGY, an initiative thanks to which two practical tools have been implemented at the disposal of the port community: the Port Energy Transition Master Plan and the Catalogue of Technologies for the decarbonisation of ports; VETLOGICC, an initiative in which manuals and didactic contents focused on VET have been developed; and DT4GS, a project in which a comprehensive digital twin modelling methodology has been implemented that combines multiple aspects of ship performance.

Open Innovation – Opentop

In terms of open innovation, Torregrosa highlighted the success of the 5th edition of the Valenciaport Hackathon organised by his Opentop initiative, and announced that the 3rd edition of the PEIC, the International Congress on Port Entrepreneurship, will be held on 22 October within the framework of the VDS.

Training

In relation to the training area, the director highlighted the recent launch of the 4th edition of the programme for the joint award of the Machinist’s Licence and the Driving Diploma, as well as the 2nd edition of the “Aids to Maritime Navigation” course, designed together with Puertos del Estado and the 34th edition of the Master’s Degree in Port Management and Intermodal Transport.

New Strategic Plan 2030

In addition, Torregrosa presented to the Board of Trustees the details of the new Strategic Plan 2030 of the entity, developed with the main objective of generating value for the cluster’s companies and which will begin to be implemented from September.

Launch of the FV 2024 Report

Finally, he announced the recent launch of the Fundación Valenciaport’s 2024 Report, an interactive document that is now available both on the corporate website and on the organisation’s social networks.
