Fundación Valenciaport celebrates the closing ceremony of the 33rd edition of its Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport

Valencia, July 2nd, 2025. – Yesterday afternoon, Fundacion Valenciaport held the closing ceremony of the 33rd edition of the Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport (MGPT) and the awarding of degrees of students from previous editions, in a ceremony chaired by Mar Chao, president of APV; José Esteban Capilla, rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV); and Antonio Torregrosa, general director of Fundacion Valenciaport.

Mar Chao opened the event by welcoming the attendees and emphasizing, once again, the importance of training as an element of competitiveness for companies, “it is essential to bet on training to be able to face the challenges in a changing environment”. In addition, the president of APV highlighted the close collaboration between the Port of Valencia and the UPV, “a center of international prestige” that “allows us to offer a training program of excellence that prepares the future leaders of the sector”.

The APV president then gave the floor to Agustín Oleaga Liñero, non-executive president of DHL Supply Chain Iberia and sponsor of this edition, who gave the keynote speech “Managing against the tide”. Oleaga began with a brief presentation of DHL Supply Chain Iberia, in which he highlighted its commitment to innovation, sustainability and operational excellence, and then shared different personal and professional experiences to illustrate how to face and overcome challenges, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a resilient and proactive attitude in the face of adversity and transforming obstacles into opportunities.

After the keynote address, Mar Chao gave way to José Esteban Capilla who emphasized the “excellent relationship between the university, the port and fundacion Valenciaport” and expressed the pride that represents for the UPV to be part of a master that “is a reference in the field of port management and logistics”. He also highlighted the UPV’s commitment to always offer a solid and rigorous academic training. The rector of the UPV also encouraged students to continue their education throughout their lives, recalling that the port sector is undergoing constant transformations and challenges, driven by the emergence of new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Then began the closing ceremony of the 33rd edition of the Master, in which the director of the Master Program and Professor of Port Planning and Operation of UPV, José Aguilar, together with the president of fundacion Valenciaport, Francesc Sánchez, and the general director of this entity, Antonio Torregrosa, proceeded to the delivery of diplomas to the students of this edition and their titles to students of previous editions that have completed their Master’s final project.

Finally, Luis Ferrer and Lola Albors, students of the 33rd edition, gave a speech on behalf of the students who completed their academic program yesterday.

Antonio Torregrosa then took the floor, underlining the importance of collaboration with the companies in the sector that host the students for their internships. “These internships are for some their first job placement and for others a springboard for their professional development. Thanks to the collaboration with our partner companies, our students have been able to gain valuable practical experience, significantly increasing their employability”.

Then, the director of Training of Fundacion Valenciaport, Ana Rumbeu, proceeded to the act of delivery of metopas of recognition to the new companies that have allied in this edition with the Master (Cosco Shipping Lines Spain and Kuehne+Nagel) and that join the list of more than 30 entities that usually welcome students in internships.

Finally, Francesc Sanchez, president of Fundacion Valenciaport, addressed the attendees to stress the importance of investing in people as the main asset of any organization. “Talent cannot be bought, it is cultivated and retained,” he said. Addressing the students, he praised their choice: “You have made the right decision in choosing this master’s degree; you are joining a sector with great projection and multiple opportunities”. Finally, he encouraged them to adopt an innovative and transformative attitude: “Be disruptive, because to build the port of the future we need all of you”.

The event was closed by Esther Gómez, Regional Secretary for Universities of the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment, who stressed the importance of companies investing in training. She also congratulated the logistics-port sector for its firm commitment to the development of talent, stressing that “a clear example of this is this master’s degree”.

The Master’s Program (MGPT)

The Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport (MGPT), whose 34th edition will begin on October 16, is owned by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), is directed by Fundacion Valenciaport and is a degree of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). The program consists of 60 ECTS credits that correspond to 600 teaching hours, including content and final master’s degree work.

The MGPT has established itself as the most prestigious international training program in Spanish, specialized in ports and transport, finding a wide echo among professionals and postgraduates in Spain, Europe and Latin America.

A key element of this Master’s program is its high percentage of employability, which is around 100%, thanks to the high level of training received and the internships carried out by students in companies in the sector.
