Fundación Valenciaport promotes the training of European port professionals in digital transformation and energy transition

  • The Port of Valencia hosts the second training mobility of the European NeXTraIn.PortS project, aimed at strengthening key skills in the logistics-port sector
  • Professionals from five countries specialize in immersive XR technologies, artificial intelligence, and clean energy to enhance port competitiveness

Valencia, February 16, 2026. – Last week, Fundación Valenciaport welcomed to its facilities the 29 participants of the second training mobility of the European NeXTraIn.PortS project, a strategic initiative aimed at equipping mid-level port managers with the key competencies needed to lead the sector’s digital and energy transition.

Following the success of the first mobility, held last November in Venice, this new stage in Valencia focused on providing professionals with advanced tools to address the technological and environmental challenges shaping today’s port logistics landscape.

The opening session featured speeches by Antonio Torregrosa, General Director of the Valenciaport Foundation; Ana Rumbeu, Director of Training; and Juan Manuel Díez, Director of Innovation at the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), who highlighted the importance of training and knowledge exchange in successfully advancing the transformation of the European port system.

The mobility brought together IT, Innovation, and Sustainability managers from several European ports, consolidating a collaborative learning environment and fostering the transfer of best practices. The training program stood out for its disruptive approach, integrating the use of Extended Reality (XR) technologies to simulate critical operations and improve decision-making in highly complex scenarios.

Participants also explored the application of digital twins and big data analytics to optimize logistics flows, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen cybersecurity. At the same time, strategies were addressed for integrating new clean energy sources into terminals and calculating carbon footprints in port environments -key aspects to ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure in an increasingly digitalized context.

The program was enriched with specialized sessions on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, complemented by technical visits to facilities of the Port Authority, including those related to alternative energy sources, the scanner and automated gates, as well as to the terminals of Valencia Terminal Europa, CSP Terminal, and the Pilots’ base. There, attendees were able to gain first-hand insight into the real-world implementation of these solutions at the Port of Valencia, one of the leading European port system benchmarks in innovation and sustainability.

Upcoming mobilities

New mobility programs are scheduled for port community professionals at the ports of Livorno, from April 20 to 24; Piraeus, from May 4 to 8; and Genoa, during the month of July.
