- PortCrew will develop a pilot project in the Port of Valencia, with new sustainable routes to decentralize tourism
- The initiative has a budget of more than €2 million, co-financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program
Valencia, September 24th, 2025. – Fundación Valenciaport has begun work on the European project PortCrew, Port-City Regions To Wave Med Cruise Destinations As Smart, Sustainable And Striking Eco-Tourism Systems, whose main objective is to transform the tourist experience in Mediterranean cruise destinations through more sustainable, intelligent, and inclusive proposals.
The initiative, coordinated by the Fundazione Istituto sui trasporti e la logistica, has a budget of more than €2 million, co-financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program.
PortCrew will promote ecotourism in Mediterranean cruise ports, promoting routes and experiences that increase the value of lesser-known natural and cultural areas.
The initiative will include the launch of pilot projects in the ports of Valencia, Koper, Toulon, Ravenna, and Thessaloniki, where sustainable excursion packages and an innovative technological platform will be developed to provide cruise passengers with up-to-date information upon arrival.
In the case of the Port of Valencia, PortCrew plans to create new eco-sustainable routes designed for new cruise passenger profiles. In addition, an electronic device will be installed in the passenger terminal of the Port of Valencia, which will provide up-to-date information on the destination.
As a result, the province’s tourism offering will be expanded, visitor flows will be decentralized, and a more balanced and sustainable approach to tourism development will be promoted.
