Cadiz hosts the 3rd edition of the annual Net-Zero MAR Alliance Congress

  • The conference will address the main challenges of decarbonization and energy transition in the Spanish maritime-port sector

Valencia, October 16th, 2025. – On October 22, 23, and 24, the city of Cádiz will become the epicenter of the debate on decarbonization in the maritime-port sector with the celebration of the 3rd edition of the Net-Zero MAR Alliance Congress, an event organized by the Fundación Valenciaport, in its role as technical secretariat of this initiative.

The congress, which will be held at the facilities of the Delegation of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Port Authority of Cadiz, will bring together institutional representatives, energy companies, port authorities, international experts, and technological entities committed to the decarbonization of maritime transport.

The first day will be devoted to the role of renewable energies in ports, with special attention to the regulatory framework for energy communities and the challenges posed by their implementation in port environments.

Another central theme will be OPS (Onshore Power Supply), with the presentation of studies on its development in Spain, consumption profiles, and the need to adapt electricity grids. This session will also analyze different business models for the management and operation of the service.

The decarbonization of port terminals will be the subject of a specific block, focusing on the application of energy efficiency and digitalization solutions as key tools for reducing emissions.

On the second day, we’ll look at decarbonizing ships at sea and future scenarios related to electrification and clean fuels in ports. We’ll study energy market trends, the impact of new technologies, and how prices and demand are changing.

The conference will also include a section dedicated to green corridors, analyzing their strategic role in the decarbonization of maritime and port transport, as well as their development at the international level.

The program will be rounded off with technical visits to various projects and facilities linked to innovation and sustainability in the port sector.

The aim of the NET-ZERO MAR Congress is to create a meeting place and facilitate dialogue between organizations with a clear commitment to the decarbonization of the port sector, consolidating itself in this 3rd edition as the reference forum for advancing towards cleaner, more efficient maritime transport in line with European and international climate objectives.

Currently, the Net-Zero Mar Alliance has 76 prominent members in the Spanish maritime port sector, including port authorities, shipping companies, terminals, industry representatives, and research entities.
