- Around 60 schoolchildren from the CEIP Las Moreras and Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados schools took part in the event
Valencia, 18 February 2026. Yesterday, the Fishermen’s Guild of the Port of Valencia hosted an awareness-raising event on marine biodiversity and maritime-fishing culture, organised by Fundación Valenciaport, Fundación Oceánica and Mundo Marino, in collaboration with the Port Authority of Valencia and the Fishermen’s Guild of Valencia.
The initiative was aimed at 5th-year primary school pupils from the CEIP Las Moreras and the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados school. Around 60 schoolchildren, accompanied by their teachers, took part in this educational experience, which gave them a practical insight into marine biodiversity and the principles of sustainable fishing.
The programme included a workshop on the Venturi effect and oceanographic studies, in which the pupils gained an experimental understanding of fluid mechanics concepts applied to navigation and their relationship with sustainability in maritime transport. There was also a workshop on responsible fishing and consumption, in which participants reflected on the different fishing techniques and the importance of making more sustainable consumption decisions, as well as learning how to correctly interpret fish labelling. Similarly, at the Guild’s own facilities, they saw first-hand how the fish auction works.
The day was rounded off with a laboratory workshop, in which the schoolchildren observed samples of plankton and microplastics to learn about their impact on the marine ecosystem and the food chain. They also enjoyed a boat trip that allowed them to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired throughout the day.
