- Cooling Photonics showcased an innovative passive cooling material with no energy consumption and transformative applications in port and industrial environments
Valencia, February 27, 2026.- Opentop, Valenciaport’s innovation hub, yesterday organized the 12th edition of PINsight, the monthly hybrid event of the Port Innovators Network (PIN), an international network of port innovation hubs co-founded by Opentop and present on three continents. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Valencia, brought together 60 registered participants in a hybrid format, with attendees present in person and remote connections from innovation hubs in Halifax (Canada), Hamburg (Germany), Bahía Blanca (Argentina), Tyne (United Kingdom), San Diego (USA), Vienna (Austria), Esbjerg (Denmark), and New Bedford (USA).
The session was opened by Jorge Marcos, head of Opentop, who presented the PIN network and the activities of Opentop, Valenciaport’s open innovation hub, before giving the floor to the guest speakers.
Sebastián de Prado, Head of Innovation at The Ocean Race, presented the organization’s innovative projects, highlighting its Scientific Program and the cutting-edge broadcasting technologies developed for extreme sailing conditions. Next, Antonio Cuenca, co-founder of Cooling Photonics, presented a novel passive cooling system based on thermal radiation that allows surfaces to be cooled without energy consumption, with direct applications in improving energy efficiency.
The event concluded with a question and answer session and debate among the participants, followed by an in-person networking session at the Valenciaport building.
Statements
Salvador Furió, Director of Innovation and Development at the Valenciaport Foundation Cluster:
“This PINsight event, organized by Opentop, is a true reflection of the Valenciaport Foundation’s commitment to open innovation and responds to one of the fundamental objectives we set ourselves as founding members of PIN (Port Innovators Network): to generate spaces for connection and dissemination in which the innovative solutions we identify can be shared and scaled up internationally.
On this occasion, the face-to-face nature of the meeting has also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties within the Valenciaport Port Community, thus complementing its international reach through the dissemination of the event.”
Sebastián de Prado, Head of Innovation at The Ocean Race:
“The Ocean Race stands at the intersection of innovation, technology, and extraordinary human achievement. Its sustainability program, ‘Racing for the Ocean,’ uses the power of sport to inspire, connect, and drive impactful change to restore the health of the oceans, and we wanted to share that today at PINsight.”
Antonio Cuenca, Co-founder of Cooling Photonics:
“Participating in PINsight #12 has provided us with an exceptional platform to connect with Valencia’s port and maritime innovation ecosystem and with the international PIN network. Our technology offers a simple but transformative approach to improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in key sectors.
During the session, we presented CoolPly technology, which uses passive radiative cooling to cool surfaces without energy consumption or moving parts, extending the useful life of equipment, reducing maintenance costs, and achieving measurable energy savings. This innovative technology is already being successfully implemented in the energy, transportation, and industrial sectors.”
