Valencia – 23.10.19. Fundación Valenciaport and the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), with the support of EIT Climate-KIC Spain, have organised a CLIMATHON, lasting 12 hours, to be held next Friday 25th October between 8:30 and 20:30 hrs. at the #SuperLabPorts facilities, as one of the first activities of the space recently inaugurated yesterday.
CLIMATHON is the most relevant collective action related to environmental issues, similar to a hackathon, in which a challenge is set to be solved and through working groups possible solutions to the challenge are studied.
Specifically, the challenge proposed for CLIMATHON Valencia is “Where can we capture CO2 in the Port of Valencia? – Measures to be implemented in the port facilities to capture CO2 and their application in the port”. The participants in this CLIMATHON will therefore have to address the best way of using carbon capture technologies in port facilities. The response will take into account three aspects: identification of suitable CO2 sources, the logistics involved in the port (collection, storage and distribution) and the valorisation of the CO2 captured.
Logistics activity in general has an environmental impact in terms of GHG emissions; one of the main aims of the APV is to work towards the objective of zero net emissions by 2030, and CO2 capture could represent one of the solutions to meet this challenge.
At the end of the day, a jury of experts will evaluate the ideas presented and award a prize to the winning team, choosing between a €1,000 voucher for the purchase of technological material or a 3-month stay at #SuperLabPorts with the advice of experts from the Valenciaport Foundation and the Port Authority of Valencia.
The deadline to register for this CLIMATHON is tomorrow 24 October or until full capacity is reached.
