Fundación Valenciaport participates in the SEANERGY project that will facilitate the energy transition of ports

Valencia, 07 October 2022. – This morning took place the kick-off meeting of the project SEANERGY – Sustainability educational programme for greener fuels and energy on ports, an initiative co-funded by the Horizon 2020 programme that has brought together 12 partners from 9 European countries (Portugal, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, Greece, France and Germany), with the common objective of supporting the creation of the best possible environment and conditions for the EU energy transition, by developing and implementing sustainability through an educational pathway focused on the port ecosystem.

This project, led by Magellan Circle and with the active participation of Fundación Valenciaport, has a total budget of 2.5 million euros and is scheduled to be developed over a period of 29 months, ending in March 2025.

This initiative will contribute to a solution to this challenge through the creation of the SEANERGY Master Plan, which aims to be an aggregator of information and guidelines that will enable all actors in the port industry, regardless of their geographical context, to assess, plan and implement the activities necessary to transform ports into clean energy centres. Consequently, the Master Plan can become the main reference for all port institutions in the elaboration of environmental and energy planning documents.

Activities such as training, re-qualification, awareness-raising and the creation of communication channels will lay the foundations for the transition to the green port, creating spaces for dialogue and teaching between all industry agents (academic, private and public), which will drive the development and integration of these technologies, together with trained professionals who will be able to manage and implement them quickly, safely and efficiently. Complementarily, the project will develop a SEANERGY Manual that will help users of the Master Plan to navigate the information through video modules, explaining the relevant key aspects of each section, as well as supporting the adaptation of the information to the regional context.

Specifically, Fundación Valenciaport will participate in the SEANERGY project by coordinating the development of a catalogue of energy transition technologies for ports; developing a training programme on energy transition for the Valenciaport port community and disseminating the activities and results of the project in Latin America, among other actions.

SEANERGY has twelve partners: Magellan Circle – European Affairs Consultancy (coordinator); World Maritime University; Stichting Ihe Delft Institute for Water Education; Rina Consulting Spa; Fundación Valenciaport; Ennshafen OÖ GmbH; Diktyo Aeiforikon Nison Toy Aigaiouae; Future Proof Shipping BV; Eco Imagination; Atperson Formación y Empleo SL; Zero Emissions Engineering BV and Anleg Gmbh.
