  • The session was attended by representatives from Sprinter, Importaco and Sanitas.

Valencia, March 6th, 2024. – The Clock Building of the Port of Valencia hosted this morning the session “Keys and trends for the business agenda of sustainability“, a meeting organised by Fundación Valenciaport in collaboration with Forética and the Port Authority of Valencia, which brought together nearly 70 representatives of the logistics-port community.

The session was opened by the general director of Fundación Valenciaport, Antonio Torregrosa, who stated that, in addition to promoting innovation and specialised training in the sector, another objective of the Fundación Valenciaport is “to lead the progressive implementation of the principles of social responsibility, helping and accompanying the companies of the port community in this journey”.

Following this, a dialogue took place between the director general of Forética, Germán Granda, and the director of CSR and Human Capital of Fundación Valenciaport, Pilar Blaya, in which they discussed the key aspects that will focus the action of companies this year in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) matters. Some of the key trends, identified by Forética, in terms of sustainability in 2024 are: a possible regulatory cooling in ESG matters with the new political cycle that will open in Europe and the United States; the integration of sustainability in corporate organisation charts, the importance of promoting measures to adapt to climate change and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

According to Germán Granda, these trends mark essential milestones for companies, allowing them to anticipate future challenges, be at the forefront of the different issues and thus accelerate sustainable transformation. “It is possible to grow while reducing environmental impact; we believe this is the way to do it”.

This was followed by a round table discussion based on business experiences with the participation of Araceli Jiménez, Head of Institutional Relations and Agenda 2030 at Sanitas; Irene Moreno, Director of External Relations and Social Responsibility at Importaco; and Thiago Frías, Sustainability Project Manager at Sprinter.

Araceli Jiménez shared Sanitas‘ strategy in the field of sustainability, whose main objective is to promote healthy habits among the general population and also among the most vulnerable population, as well as its new “one health” approach that is being integrated throughout the company and which aims to care for the overall health of the planet.

For her part, the representative of Importaco, Irene Montero, stressed the importance of promoting humanist leadership in order to comply with the 2030 agenda and of “producing more by consuming less”, promoting the sustainability strategy through the product and from top management.

Finally, Thiago Frías reviewed the objectives of Sprinter’s CSR area, among which are the measurement of its environmental impact, the development of a strategy to mitigate the negative impact and maximise the positive impact, as well as training and awareness-raising from within the company. In addition, he highlighted the promotion of the circular economy by the management area, applying different measures such as the continuous development of its products, the transversal involvement of its stakeholders and the continuous improvement of processes.

The session ended with an interesting open dialogue with the attendees, who highlighted the usefulness of this type of sessions to learn and advance in this field.
