Fundación Valenciaport to promote the training of port professionals through the NeXTraIn.PortS Project

  • The initiative will address the training of different professional profiles in the port-logistics sector in the field of energy and digital transition.
  • The project is part of the Erasmus+ programme and is co-funded by the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA).

Valencia, February 25th, 2024. – The kick-off meeting of the NeXTraIn.PortS project, ‘Empower Next Port Professionals with Innovative Skills through XR Immersive Training Programs‘, which will boost the training of professionals in the logistics-port sector, has been held this week in Livorno, Italy.

The initiative, led by the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (AdSP) and in which Fundación Valenciaport participates, is part of the Erasmus+ programme and is co-financed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

The project will provide support at regional, national and European level to decision-makers in the field of training, as well as in the structuring of the network model between the ports of Valencia, Rotterdam, Livorno, Venice and Piraeus.

For this purpose, a basis for analysis, monitoring and work dynamics will be established, as well as the development of skills within the port-logistics cluster, all linked to the upcoming energy and digital transition.

NeXTraIn.Ports will focus on three professional areas: firstly, port and logistics management; secondly, technical planning and management of cargo and passenger handling; and finally, operational logistics-port handling.

Among the main activities to be developed is the mapping of professional profiles in the port sector, verifying the impact of the energy and digital transition on skills and competences.

In addition, it includes the creation of training itineraries using innovative methodologies and tools such as XR (Extended Reality) technologies for the selected profiles.

Other activities will also be carried out, such as the determination of criteria and methodologies for the certification of professional competences, the organisation of 100 training mobilities for port workers and VET experts in the 5 partner ports, and the elaboration of a Policy Document for decision-makers.

As a result, at the end of the project, a Profiles Manual will be available and training pathways will have been created with XR technologies, as well as an Observatory of port professional profiles. It will also have facilitated the involvement of ports and logistics companies in vocational training activities to face change, achieving support for institutions in the analysis and monitoring of labour dynamics and skills.

As for Fundación Valenciaport, it will be in charge of mapping the job profiles of the logistics-port sector in relation to the energy and digital transition

This will be carried out through activities such as questionnaires to stakeholders, the creation of an observatory and the holding of several workshops with experts, including one in the Port of Valencia. It will also participate in other types of activities related to the certification of experts, training mobilities and best practices, among others.
